2016 Water Management Workshop

ARS Organizing Water Management Workshop January 2016 in Modesto California

As California producers suffered through their fourth year of an historic drought, the ARS Office of International Research Programs (OIRP) and Water Management Research Unit, Parlier, CA,  organized a workshop on "Water Management Strategies for Perennial Crops with Limited and Impaired Water Supplies". The workshop, organized in response to an Israeli offer to share their water management expertise, was held in Modesto California January 12-13, 2016. Speakers included U.S., Israeli, and Australian researchers and experts. Up to 300 attendees were expected, comprised of perennial crop producers, (e.g. table grapes, raisins, wine grapes, almonds, citrus, and pome fruit), university and water and irrigation industry representatives. This was a how-to event, that provided practical recommendations for water management during drought, and for using impaired-quality water.
