Caption for September 2012 Agricultural Research magazine article, "Finding the Right Biofuels for the Southeast: A Range of Alternatives." Technician David Verdun transplants energy cane seedlings into the field. In 2012, over 24,000 germplasm seedlings were transplanted. Several may prove to have potential for bioenergy use.

Caption for October 2008 Agricultural Research magazine article, "Research Helps Set the Stage for Ethanol . . . Southern Style." Technician David Verdun transplants sugarcane seedlings into the field. The operation includes annual transplanting of about 8,000 seedlings as candidate varieties for bioenergy use.

Caption for September 2003 Agricultural Research magazine article, "Raising Cane: ARS Research Benefits Sugarcane Growers and Processors." Technician David Verdun transplants sugarcane seedlings to the field. He supervises and assists in the annual transplanting of about 125,000 seedlings. About one-third are wild derivative genotypes originating from crosses performed at Houma, Louisiana; two-thirds are commercial types largely from the ARS research station at Canal Point, Florida.
