Redbay Ambrosia Beetle

(From A Better Lure To Detect and Control an Avocado Pest)

Redbay Ambrosia Beetle

SEM image of the redbay ambrosia beetle antenna. ARS scientists identified the primary host location cue, alpha-copaene, by using (1) electroantennography (EAG) to measure olfactory response from the beetle antenna, and (2) lab bioassays to confirm behavioral response (attraction) to that chemical. This led to development of an improved field lure enriched in copaene. (D3704-1)
