Jason Pleasant packaging soybean seed

 Image Number D4419-1

At his home in Aigner, NC., technician, Jason Pleasant of the ARS, Soybean Nitrogen Fixation Unit, Raleigh, NC., packages soybean seed that will be planted in 2020. At harvest, the center row is harvested from each plot within a test and placed into a paper bag. After harvest each bag is weighed, and moisture is recorded. Each test is then analyzed, and the winners move forward. Mr. Pleasant is in the process of packaging those winners, that will be planted in 2020 for additional testing. Each bag contains a unique genotype and for each genotype, seed weight is recorded and used to package envelopes for planting in 2020. Normally packaging is completed using an automated seed counter.
