Plants can get Sick
Plants Can Get "Sick", Grow Poorly, and Die
Sometimes they get sick because
- They do not get enough minerals from the soil
- They do not get enough water or they get too much water
- They do not get enough sun and warmth
Sometimes they get injured because
- Animals like rabbits, deer and woodchucks eat them
- Insects can eat them also
Sometimes they get sick because they get a disease
- Diseases are caused by many microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi or viruses
- Many microorganisms that cause plant diseases live in the soil
- Small worms called nematodes (they live in the soil) attack their roots
