Research Interests

My research focuses on agricultural production area, specifically developing process based mathematical models to describe crop growth, development, yield as well as soil processes in soil-plant-atmospheric system. For example, I incorporated a coupled photosynthesis, stomatal conductance and transpiration model into soybean GLYCIM model to improve the model’s performance and better quantify the impact of climate change such as elevated CO2 and temperature, drought on crop growth. I am also studying how fundamental management practices of crop rotation and cover crop impact yield as well as soil nutrient (N/P) availability and loss risk and to quantify trade-offs in cropping system for management, specifically developing models to predict crop growth, development and soil processes over time and ultimately yield under the effects of major management practices. Currently, I work on combining satellited data into crop computational models, machine learning approaches to address the impacts of climate change on agroecosystem.
