Summer 2009

David Lee, Wheaton College
ORIP Intern
David worked to sequence the resistance-breaking isolates of RYMV and compare their sequences to those of other isolates. He also worked to sequence MDMV-It and compare its sequence with those of non-resistance-breaking isolates from Ohio. Eventually, the results of these projects will lead to greater understanding of how changes in the genomes of these viruses allow them to break through established resistances.

Aimee Thompson, Hiram College
ORIP Intern
Aimee worked with graduate student Valdir Correa to characterize Stolbur phytoplasma genetic variability and phytoplasma-host interactions.  She also worked on a method to co-culture phytoplasmas in vitro using Drosophila S2 cells.

Geoff Harper, Case Western University
ORIP Intern
Geoff worked with the soybean aphid(Aphis glycines) and transmission of three soybean viruses.

Summer 2008

Cameron R. T. Exnor, Carnegie Mellon
ORIP Intern
Cameron worked on the characterization of the mechanism of persistence of Pantoea stewartii in its insect vector.

October 2007
Kevin Pixley
Associate Director of CIMMYT
Kevin came to work with Agronomist Mark Jones to learn how to use SSR Markers to identify maize virus resistance loci.

Anna Nikolic
Norman Borlaug Scholar
Anna also came to work with Agronomist Mark Jones to learn how to use SSR Markers to identify maize virus resistance loci.
