GPRG attends the MVGA Annual Meeting and Bostdorff Poinsettia trial

On November 14th and December 2nd members of the GPRG team attended the MVGA Annual Meeting and Bostdorff's poinsettia trial, respectively.  At the annual meeting various reports were given, board nominations voted for, and the association bylaws passed.  They also announced three recipients for the 2013 scholarships; two from Owens Community College and one from The Ohio State University.    Guest speaker Kelly Heidbreder, meteorologist at ABC TV13 and TV columnist for "Lets Grow" spoke on the importance of weather information to the industry.  She also communicated to growers the use of social media as an effective tool to advertise and interact with customers.

Bostdoff Greenhouse was one of the host sites for the OFA/OSU Ohio regional poinsettia evaluation trial, with 55 entries from Dummen, Ecke, Selecta, and Syngenta displayed for evaluation.  Bract colors included red, white, pink, and novelty (multi-colored).  Participants evaluated each plant and were encouraged to select their favorite three.  Dr. Claudio Pasian, floriculture specialist from OSU Extension, was in attendance to compile the results. Poinsettia plants were also available for purchase along with other seasonal plants.
