Biography and Research

Dr. William (Will) Hay has been a Plant Physiologist (Post Doctoral) at NCAUR, USDA-ARS, Peoria, IL since 2015. He received his Ph.D. in Physiological and Molecular Plant Biology from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. Dr. Hay is a member of a team of scientists that conducts research on the development of environmentally friendly, bio-based technologies to stop fungal, insect, and bacterial damage to crops found in the United States. Dr. Hay also conducts research on identifying novel plant products that can be utilized as food additives or emulsifiers, and  to replace petroleum products in packaging. Dr. Hay develops novel modified starches and amylose-inclusion complexes and characterizes the materials using rheological properties.
