Biography and Research

Ben Plumier is an Agricultural Engineer that has worked at ARS in Peoria since 2019. He received his B.Sc. (2011) from the University of Illinois in Agricultural and Biological Engineering, specializing in Food and Bioprocess engineering.  He received his M.S. from the University of Illinois in 2013 and his Ph.D. from Kansas State University in 2018 for his work entitled “3D ecosystem modeling of aeration and fumigation in Australian grain silos to improve efficacy against insects”. He conducted postdoctoral research at Purdue University on the properties of grain dust adhesion and behavior. Currently, Dr. Plumier works with scientists at NCAUR conducting research on the processing and utilization of ancient grains. The primary goal of this research is to provide for new products from ancient grains with enhanced functional properties and health factors such as increased soluble fiber and antioxidant activity.
