Cows grazing on corn swaths in the winter snow in North Dakota. ARS researchers at the Northern Great Plains Research Laboratory have found that Northern Plains farmers can save money by allowing cows to swath graze throughout the winter. Various rotations of forages and legume-grass mixtures, when swath grazed, can provide protein-rich mixtures that can help beef up pregnant cows.
