OTHER INFORMATION: Grown almost exclusively in the Spalt area of West Germany; highly priced by certain brewers for its noble aroma characteristics; production is insufficient to satisfy demand; (1997 production: 421.189 lbs on 459 acres; not grown commercially in the United States because of low yields. This hop is generally considered to be part of the Saaz group of varieties, related to Tettnanger and Saazer. Its oil contains small amounts of farnesene, but has a high H/C ratio (3.43 average).
