RATIONALE
 

• Surface irrigation of cultivated soils is a major source of phosphorus (P) pollution to watercourses in the Western U.S.

• Soluble P concentrations in irrigation water are determined by soil properties, soil P pools, and irrigation water quality.

• We investigated P desorption kinetics in simulated irrigation water as a function of soil properties, solution:soil ratio, and solution chemistry.
