IMPLICATIONS
 

• Irrigation water chemistry will partly determine soluble P transfer from cultivated irrigated soils (salt effect).

• Erosion control to reduce particulate P transfer in irrigation runoff will also reduce soluble P transfer by minimizing desorption from suspended sediment (ratio effect).

• Soluble P transfer from surface irrigated soils to runoff may be predicted from simple agronomic P tests.
