Watershed Background
The Upper Snake-Rock (USR) watershed is one of eight special emphasis watersheds in the NRCS Conservation Effects Assessment Project (CEAP). Land use in the USR is 37% irrigated agriculture, <1% dryland agriculture, and 60% range and forest with a history of various conservation practices and long-term water quality data. Our CEAP research efforts in the USR are targeted toward the Twin Falls Irrigation Tract, an 82,000 ha irrigation district with approximately 30% sprinkler irrigation and 70% furrow irrigation.

Conversion from furrow irrigation to sprinkler irrigation is the primary NRCS funded conservation practice in the Twin Falls Irrigation Tract. Conversion to sprinkler irrigation should improve water quality by reducing irrigation runoff and irrigation induced erosion.
