Sediment plume entering the Snake river from irrigation return flow in 1980. Since that time, the Twin Falls Canal Co., conservation districts, NRCS, and state agencies have made many efforts to improve water quality. To date over 160 sediment ponds are installed on the tract, sprinkler irrigation has increased from approximately 0 to 30%, and producers are using polyacrylamide (PAM) and other on-farm practices to reduce sediment. These practices have improved water quality making sediment plumes like this a scene of the past. |
