Technical Abstract:
Field studies were conducted to find cost effective chemical additives to increase cotton defoliation when using the lowest recommended rates of two commonly used cotton defoliants, Def-6 and Dropp 50WP. When using Def-6 at one pint per acre, the percent of defoliation after 14 days was increased from 40% with Def-6 alone to 84% with the addition of 20 oz per acre of Boll'd (ethephon boll opening compound), 2 lb per acre ammonium sulfate fertilizer, and 0.25% Activate Plus detergent compound. When using Dropp 50WP at 0.2 lb per acre, defoliation at 14 days after treatment was increased from 84% with Dropp 50WP alone to 94% with the addition of 20 oz per acre of Boll'd and 0.25% Surf Aid detergent compound.
