Technical Abstract: The small hive beetle, Aethina tumida Murray, is a new pest beetle attacking honey bee hives in North America. Damage by this beetle where it has been confirmed in the U.S.A. has been severe. Many questions have arisen about the biology and control of this beetle. We propose research studying means of detection within a bee yard, use of chemicals to control adults and larvae, and basic biology of this pest. Recommendations for future control strategies are given.
