Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 4/17/1997 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Beta-1,3-glucanases are involved in the breakdown and turnover of beta-1,3- glucans which are found in several plant organs. The beta-1,3-glucanases play an important role during microsporogenesis. They also are frequently associated with a role in plant defense, and were first described as belonging to the pathogenesis-related family of proteins which accumulate rapidly in response to pathogen attack or stress. Oligonucleotide primers designed for conserved sequences from coding regions of beta-1,3-glucanase genes from other taxa were used to amplify related sequences from soybean. These amplified sequences were cloned and grouped into at least nine classes of beta-1,3-glucanases which did not cross-hybridize under stringent hybridization conditions. Genetic mapping of these nine classes is being conducted to locate their positions within respective soybean linkage groups. |
