Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The 1996 weed research trials were conducted at the Purdue Agronomy Research Center in west central Indiana 7 miles northwest of West Lafayette. Frequent rain showers allowed for little drying of the soil. No soybean trials were able to be planted until mid-June, and over half the soybean trials were not planted until July. In addition to being wet, spring 1996 was cool. Mid-June to mid-July the rains stopped and temperatures went up. This resulted in uneven soybean stands and inconsistent performance of soil applied herbicides. August weather turned cool and dry. September and early October provided the crop with some good growing conditions which were badly needed A mid-October frost brought an end to a challenging growing season. Weed pressure was variable due to when the trial was planted and the unusual weather conditions. While soybean yields were surprisingly high in most trials, reduced soybean yields were observed from treatments which caused significant crop injury or lacked performance.
