Technical Abstract: Producers in the Great Plains and elsewhere must integrate complex site and management relationships in planning for sustainable agriculture. A decision support system is being developed for strategic whole-farm management planning in Great Plains agriculture. The system focuses on sustainability and includes consideration of on-site economic, management, pest, soil, and climate interactions with strong emphasis on control of environmental impacts. GPFARM is MS Windows based and incorporates a graphical user interface along with soil-crop simulation, expert system technology, integrated economics, and regional soil, climate, crop and management databases. This paper describes the current phase and direction of the GPFARM project.
