Technical Abstract:
In the conduct of most grazing trials, animal weights are obtained at fixed intervals throughout some designated period of grazing which may be the grazing season. Because animal response data are generally reported as daily means representing a specific period of interest (which may be the grazing season), only the initial and final animal weights may be used in arriving at that value. The use of only initial and final weights 1) assumes linearity in body changes over time, which is unlikely, 2) ignores useful information regarding daily animal-response changes during the grazing period and 3) information about the periodic or seasonal productivity of the pasture treatments being compared, is lost to the reader. These and additional aspects will be addressed.
