Interpretive Summary: Tachykinins are peptides which act as neurohormones in mammals. In conjunction with their respective receptors, these peptide neurohormones have been implicated in a number of mammalian motor and sensory functions, particularly related to central and peripheral neuron activity and the contraction of smooth muscle. A 4118 bp clone was purified and sequenced from a Stomoxygs calcitrans cDNA library and found to encode a protein wit significant amino acid identity to the DTKR tachykinin-like peptide receptor from Drosophila melanogaster and various tachykinin-like peptide receptors from mammals. Similarity between the Stomoxys clone's open reading frame, designated STKR, and tachykinin receptors is highest in putative membrane spanning regions.
Technical Abstract:
A 4118 bp clone was purified and sequenced from a Stomoxys calcitrans cDNA library and found to have an open reading frame which encoded a protein with significant amino acid identity to the DTKR tachykinin-like peptide receptor from Drosophila melanogaster. Similarity between the Stomoxys clone's open reading frame, designated STKR, and reported tachykinin receptors is highest in putative membrane spanning regions.
