Technical Abstract: The earth spillway erosion model incorporated into the NRCS Water Resource Site Analysis software combines basic physical principles with data gathered from field spillways to predict the extent of erosion expected from a given hydrograph through the spillway. The intended use of the model is to evaluate the potential for a given flow to breach the spillway and release stored water. The model utilizes a three-phase iterative approach to spillway erosion computations. Different relations are required to describe each of these phases. The relations for each phase are summarized and the implication of their application in the model are briefly discussed.
