Technical Abstract: Long-term evaluations of woody landscape plants are being conducted at Michigan State University in East Lansing (USDA Hardiness Zone 5b), as part of the NC-7 Regional Ornamental Plant Trials, an evaluation network organized to identify promising new trees and shrubs for the North Central U.S. This paper reports on the horticultural characteristics and landscape uses of six plants that have performed particularly well in the trials in East Lansing during the last ten years. The adaptation and overall performance of two vines, Ampelopsis cordata from Nebraska and Wisteria frutescens var. macrostachya supplied by the University of Wisconsin, one small tree, Euonymus hamiltonianus from South Korea, and three shrubs, Physocarpus opulifolius Nugget, a clonal selection from South Dakota State University, Rhus aromatica Konza, a population released by the Natural Resources Conservation Service in Kansas, and Sorbaria sorbifolia, supplied by the Arboretum Kostelec in the Czech Republic, are described and illustrated with color photographs.
