Interpretive Summary: This article registers a Hessian fly-resistant hard red winter wheat germplasm that was formally released by USDA-ARS laboratories in Stillwater, OK, and Manhattan, KS, in 1987. No unreported research is documented; no interpretive summary is required.

Technical Abstract: PI 510693 is a hard red winter wheat germplasm developed by USDA-ARS and formally released in 1987. PI 510693 carries the H6 gene conferring resistance to Hessian fly Great Plains biotype and biotypes A, B, E, H, I, J, and M. It was developed from the cross 'Lathrop'/'Newton'. The F1 was grown in the greenhouse, and the F2 population was space-planted in the field at Stillwater, OK. Individual plants were harvested and 30 seedlings derived from each F2 plant were evaluated for resistance to the Great Plains biotype in greenhouse tests at Manhattan, KS. Resistant selections were grown in F3 head rows at Stillwater. F4, F5, and F6 progeny were evaluated at Manhattan, and only those appearing homogeneous-resistant were advanced. PI 510693 is a composite of resistant F6 lines. This germplasm has not been evaluated for other pest resistance or agronomic traits. Hessian fly resistance gene H6 of PI 510693 originates from the durum wheat tPI 94587, a parent of Lathrop ('Henry'*7/PI 94587).
