Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This study reports the fatty acid profiles of 25 alternative lipid feedstocks for the production of bio-based fuels and chemicals. Lipids were extracted using hexane from oil-bearing seeds using a standard Soxhlet apparatus. Fatty acid profiles were measured using gas chromatography-flame ionization detection (GC-FID). Total oil content is also reported. These results will be used to determine appropriate applications for the feedstock, as fatty acid profile influences properties and performance of value-added products. These results will be beneficial to oleochemical producers and users and other more traditional chemical companies as they explore bio-based alternatives to existing petrochemically-derived commercial products.
