Interpretive Summary: An increasingly erratic climate threatens consistent and dependable crop production. It is imperative, under varying and unpredictable environmental conditions, that crop varieties express multiple abiotic stress tolerances. Introducing genes from wild relatives may be a way to breed for increased abiotic stress tolerance. We analyzed a population of common bean x tepary bean interspecific hybrids for response to drought and sub-zero temperature stress. Some interspecific hybrids exhibited drought and cold tolerance similar to tepary bean accessions. The practical application of using tepary bean as a donor for abiotic stress tolerance genes in common bean will be addressed.
