Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This brief note represents the first report of the cosmopolitan Morchella sp. [Mel-19] in North America. Prior to the discovery of this morel in the Nearctic, it was previously only known to be from Central and Northern Europe and China. Collections from Newfoundland and Washington State were identified molecularly as Mel-19 employing portions of three phylogenetically informative genes. An abbreviated phenotypic description is provided; however, this species will be formally described in a subsequent study.
