Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Allelopathy (plant/plant chemical warfare) is difficult to prove, especially when competition for resources is the dominant component of plant/plant interference (interference = allelopathy +competition). This paper describes experimental approaches for proving allelopathy and points out common pitfalls found in much of the allelopathy literature.
