Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The 2013 Schroth Faces of the Future symposium was created to recognize early career professionals (those within 10 years of graduation) who represent the future in their field via innovative research. For this year, future faces in mycology research were recognized. Drs. Jason Slot, Erica Goss, Jamie Blair, and Marin Talbot Brewer were selected as the Schroth awardees. They will present their ground-breaking research in fungal metagenomics at the 2013 Annual Meeting of the American Phytopathological Society in Austin, Texas. Their research entails using high-throughput modern genomics to monitor changes in fungal populations and species, with an eye towards understanding emergence and reemergence of serious fungal diseases of crops or forests.
