Technical Abstract: Treated fabrics can be used as an intervention on small livestock farms to prevent the entry of biting flies, thus reducing the incidence of disease transmission. The major objective is to prevent host-vector/biting fly contact. An efficacious barrier of treated fabric should significantly reduce or manage the numbers of vectors/biting flies in selected areas over designated periods of time. Goals of this study were to find cooperators who would participate in the studies, had ample land resources with pertinent fly species on site and would allow on-site construction of standardized animal housing. Presence of vector/biting fly populations was determined with appropriate traps and the terrain was surveyed to ensure the existence of ample cover for fly populations. Treated fabrics, both new and previously exposed, were bioassayed in the laboratory to determine efficacy against selected fly species.
