Technical Abstract: The number of outbreaks of leaf spot, blight and streak diseases on celery, cilantro, fennel and parsley has been increasing throughout central coastal California and particularly in Monterey County since 2002. Two different bacterial pathogens (Pseudomonas syringae pv. apii, and P. syringae pv. coriandricola) have been associated these outbreaks on parsley. Our recent research demonstrated that regional outbreaks on celery and fennel have always been associated with Pseudomonas syringae pv. apii while outbreaks on cilantro and parsley were associated with either pathogen. We are seeking additional samples of foliar problems from any member of the Apiaceae crop group: anise, carrot, celeriac, celery, chervil, cilantro, dill, fennel, parsley, parsnip and others because we are investigating the ecology and management of these pathogens.
