Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Streptococcosis and lactococcosis are hyperacute systemic diseases that can occur in both cultured and wild fish species in various aquatic environments (freshwater, estuarine, and marine). Streptococcosis and lactococcosis are caused by Gram-positive bacteria belong to the genus Streptococcus and Lactococcus, respectively. Both Streptococcus and Lactococcus belong to the Streptococcaceae family (Bacteria; Firmicutes; Lactobacillales). In this book chapter, thie occurence, significance, etiology, pathogenes, and vaccines developed to prevent streptococcosis and lactococcosis are reviewed. |
