Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Utetes anastrephae (Viereck, 1913), an opine braconid, is the only species of Utetes recorded repeatedly from several species of Anastrepha (Diptesa:Tephritidse) attacking Utetes species native to the continental US (Wharton 1997, Ovruski et al 2000). In Florida it is a common and widespread parasitoid of the invasive Caribbean fruit fly (Anastrepha suspensa). Its range extends southward to Argentina (Wharton and Marsh 1978; Sivinski et al 1997)where it has also been occasionally collected from the Mediterranean fruit fly.
