Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This was an invited 45 minute oral presentation concerning assessment and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions from feedlots. The audience at the summit (about 60 people) included university professors, environmental regulators, and producers. The presentation included a brief review of environmental regulations, typical feedlots (diets, animal management, manure management, etc.), sources and quantities of greenhouse emissions from feedlots. It was also discussed how emissions are experimentally measured and the effects of diet, and the environment on emissions. Nutritional and management procedures to potentially decrease emissions of ammonia, nitrous oxide, and methane from feedyards was also discussed.
