Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Crop producers in the mid-south are relying increasingly on irrigation to supplement the unpredictable and, in some years, insufficient rainfall. Use of irrigation can enhance yields and improve crop quality. However, little information is available on accurate timing and amount of irrigation application for optimal crop performance and water management. An irrigation scheduler, the Mississippi Irrigation Scheduling Tool (MIST), has been developed for producers to determine amount and timing of irrigation needed. The MIST is an online irrigation scheduler that uses weather information to estimate crop water use, and predict irrigation needs based on crop and soil specific information. Information on the scheduler, crop water use, and soil water will be demonstrated at this producer trade show.
