Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Formosan subterranean termite Coptotermes formosanus Shriaki (FST) was introduced into the United States from Asia following World War II, through ports in Galveston, TX, Lake Charles and New Orleans, LA, and Charleston, SC. Populations in this country were first correctly identified in the 1960’s. The termite has continued to spread, primarily through human activity, and has now been reported in 159 counties and parishes in the continental United States. Locations of FST populations were mapped, by the decade the termite was first reported in a county. Climate suitability maps were produced, using experimental data and extreme conditions from the current distribution.
