Technical Abstract: This study investigated the effect of a dietary supplement potassium diformate (PDF) on growth performance, survival and nutrient digestibility of Pacific white shrimp cultured under clean water conditions. We found that weight gain was not significantly (P>0.05) affected by the different levels of PDF ranging from 0 to 1.5% in the diet. Survival of shrimp was high (>97%) for all treatments. FCR was significantly higher in shrimp fed the diet containing 1.2% PDF (P<0.05). Furthermore, supplementation of PDF at 1.2% resulted in significant decrease in digestibility of dietary dry matter, protein, and gross energy but not the digestibility of lipid. In conclusion, results from this study showed that PDF supplementation at high levels may affect feed efficiency and nutrient digestibility, but PDF supplementation up to 1.5% in the diet does not affect growth in shrimp cultured under clean water conditions in this experiment.
