Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Biosurfactants can be classified by their chemical composition and their origin. This review briefly describes the type of biosurfactants based on their origin. Some of the widely used biosurfactants are introduced. The current statues and future trends in the production of biosurfactants are discussed with an emphasis on plant-derived surfactants. Following a brief introduction of the properties of microbubbles, recent progress in the application of microbubble technology, such as molecular imaging, water and wastewater treatment, and aerobic fermentations, are presented. Several studies on the preparation and characterization of biosurfactant-based microbubbles as well as applications of biosurfactant-based microbubbles are reviewed.
