Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: This paper aims at demonstrating how greening efforts can be embedded into science and engineering courses without major curricular changes. In this regard, examples of final projects assigned in a statistical quality control, a 500-level, graduate engineering course, focusing on campus sustainability are provided. After completing ten weeks in the classroom, the students were asked to apply their engineering knowledge and learning of continuous process improvement techniques to a given problem. As a result, students were able to analyze their familiar university campus from an environmental perspective and suggest solutions for improvement. Therefore, the project outcomes are considered to be beneficial from two aspects; (i) improved engineering and problem solving skills, (ii) increased awareness regarding current environmental problems. |
