Interpretive Summary: Symptoms typical of virus infection were seen on tomato samples from the Homestead area. Samples collected from December 2009 through February 2010 were tested and the presence of Groundnut ringspot virus was detected. This is the first time that this virus has been found within the U.S. and expands the number of viruses causing disease in Florida tomatoes.

Technical Abstract: Typical tospovirus symptoms were observed on tomato plants in Homestead, FL from November 2009 through February 2010. The presence of Groundnut ringspot virus was confirmed from serological and molecular tests incuding ELISA and PCR. This is the first report of GRSV within the U.S.
