Interpretive Summary: Casearia sylvestris Swartz (Flacourtiaceae) is a Brazilian
and Paraguayan folk medicinal plant called as “Guaçatonga” or “Chá de Bugre” and used to treat snakebite, trauma, ulceration, obesity, and cough. Our continued investigation of this species has led to identification of five new clerodane diterpene glycosides, caseariasides A-E (1-5) and three ent-kaurane diterpene glucosides, sylvestrisides C-E (6-8). Here, we report the isolation and structure elucidation of these eight new glycosides.
Technical Abstract:
Five new clerodane diterpene glycosides caseariasides A-E (1-4) and three new ent-kaurane diterpene glucosides sylvestrisides C-E (6-8) were isolated from the leaves of Casearia sylvestris. Their structures were determined on the basis of chemical and spectroscopic analyses.
