Technical Abstract: The world is facing an impinging crisis on water as population growth continues, energy use increases, and affluence (standard of living) increases all requiring more water. Agriculture must find ways to use water more productively while improving the impact of agriculture on the environment. Agricultural and Biological Engineers are at the forefront of this future crisis leading through research, education, innovation, and training. This article briefly described the state and nature of this water crisis. It provided several examples where ASABE (American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers) members are doing international research and training to address water conservation and advance newer technologies in developing areas of the world facing water shortages.
