Interpretive Summary: Many species of soldier flies are beneficial to agriculture in that the larvae help to decompose plant material, although a few species are known to attack living plants, such as grass roots. The information contained in this publication provides a taxonomic synopsis, with an identification key to species, of the soldier flies found on the Seychelles Islands. This information will be of interest to those working on the biodiversity and conservation of these fragile and endangered island faunas. Technical Abstract: The Stratiomyidae of the Seychelles Islands are reviewed. Fourteen species are briefly discussed, and a key to the species known to occur in the Seychelles is provided. Specimens examined are itemized and earlier records noted. |
