Technical Abstract: Lessons learned and findings from the analysis of caffeine in dietary supplements and the analysis of vitamins and minerals in adult multivitamin products will be included in this discussion. Fifty-four dietary supplement products for weight loss or sports performance listing at least caffeine-containing ingredient (guarana, kola nut, yerba mate, tea and cocoa) were selected from four main sales channels for analysis. The caffeine content was determined using high performance liquid chromatography and results were monitored for accuracy by the Nutrient Data Laboratory (NDL). NDL is also applying quality control measures to the laboratory analysis of over 20 vitamins and minerals in top-selling and randomly-chosen adult multivitamins.
