Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Genetically modified New World screwworms were analyzed by inverse PCR and several sequences of genomic DNA flanking the transposon insertion sites were obtained. One transgenic strain, designated GIZA, exhibited the properties of a lethal genetic mutation. Classic genetic crosses of these insects resulted in death of homozygous individuals. The 407 bases surrounding the transposon insert translated to an uninterrupted 132 amino acid sequence bearing similarity to other insect myosin genes.
