Technical Abstract: This is an introductory summary for papers either invited or a part of a symposium at the 18th World Congress of Soil Science, July 2006 in Philadelphia. The symposium, titled "Multiscale Mapping of Soil Properties for Environmental Studies, Agriculture, and Decision Making," focused on techniques used in multiscale mapping of soil properties and processes from the pore particle scale through and beyond the watershed scale.
