Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Much of the behavior change technology incorporated into games has been interactive (e.g., Goal setting, knowledge games, etc.). The storyline also provides interesting opportunities for promoting behavior change. This could include modeling of desired behaviors by characters in the storyline, modeling of coping with problems/barriers by the characters, but also statements of authoritative parenting, affirmations of emotional commitment to behavior change. These could influence a person much as stories do. This presentation will provide a conceptual framework and examples for how the storyline could be used to enhance the behavior change possibilities of games. Theories can be used to inform story development in health behavior change games.
