Interpretive Summary: Longhorned beetles are very important to agriculture and the economy because they destroy wood during their early developmental stages. Many species of wood boring beetles are intercepted at ports-of-entry in the United States and are potential pests. This study describes one longhorned woodboring beetle new to science from the Caribbean. This region is a common origin for invasive species into the U. S. We provide figures as identification tools to distinguish the new species from 4 other co-occurring longhorned woodboring beetles. This study will be important to port identifiers, regulatory personnel associated with APHIS-PPQ, and scientists and laypersons concerned with woodboring beetles and Caribbean fauna.

Technical Abstract: Derancistrus hovorei is described from Dominican Republic. A diagnosis is provided to discriminate it from related taxa, in particular Derancistrodes vittatus (Olivier) and Derancistrus elegans (Palisot de Beauvois). Biological, distributional, and/or taxonomic notes are provided for other Hispaniolan Prioninae including Solenoptera dominicensis (Gahan), Elateropsis femoratus (Sallé), Sarifer seabrai Fragoso & Monné, and Mecosarthron domingoensis (Fisher).
